There is a tremendous amount of focus on pregnancy, preparing for birth and the new baby with so little preparation for the postpartum period. Research shows that parents who get support during the postpartum period benefit in several ways. Hiring a doula helps new parents feel more confident, they have more success when it comes to breastfeeding, there is a lower risk for postpartum depression and other postpartum mood disorders, as well as a lower incidence of abuse.
